New owner to start producing trucks on ex-Toyota plant in 2024

ST. PETERSBURG, May 3 (PRIME) -- Former Toyota’s plant in St. Petersburg will start producing trucks engineered by Obukhov State Plant, part of Almaz-Antey, in 2024, the current owner said on Wednesday, after CEO Mikhail Podvyaznikov held a working meeting.

"Mikhail Podvyaznikov reminded that the facility in Shushary plans to start production of large-capacity civil trucks BAZ-S36A11 engineered by the Obukhov State Plant in 2024," the statement read.

The plant also plans to start producing electric cars E-Neva in 2026.

Toyota’s car plant in St. Petersburg passed into the ownership of Russia’s Central Scientific Research Automobile and Automotive Engines Institute (NAMI) on March 31, and the institute late gave it away to a unit of Almaz-Antey.
